# Old New York Bars in the News

Old New York saloons have been much in the news the past week. Every time I see a headline with an old bar’s name in it, I get heart palpitations. It’s rarely good news. This times, in the Neir’s case, we averted disaster.

Sad to lose Matty, though. His fund of stories appeared to me to be inexhaustible. I was at a table once at McSorley’s with him and gaz and hoo, boy. I wish I had recorded it.
