Terrible news to wake up to, and probably only the first of what I anticipate will be a bloodbath. My impression is that those ostensibly in power have chosen—consciously or not—to sacrifice the hospitality sector (and probably many other small business sectors) to favor their Wall Street overlords. Alas, our employment and economy is driven principally by small business, but political power is driven by old money and deep pockets.
Correct analysis, Martin. Cuomo has been a good leader. But landlords and developers and the banks pull the strings. They are never asked to sacrifice, and they are never sacrifices. That there hasn’t been a rent freeze is a tragedy and a scandal. But it’s entirely predictable.
