The Story of Kessler Whiskey

I did my best to find out anything I could about Kessler Whiskey, the bottom-shelf American blend, basically because I realized I knew nothing about the ubiquitous brand. I uncovered an interesting story. Unsurprisingly, the conglomerate that owns Kessler had no answers.

Heh. I found a bottle of it at a store in Louisville and bought it because I followed the antics of an avid drinker of it, ZODIAC MOTHERFUCKER back in the Twitter days. For as cheap as it was I found it quite drinkable.
(I, unfortunately, do not subscribe so couldn’t read the article, since I do not give Substack money, but I’d gladly pay you directly for a copy of it.)

Thanks. Sorry to hear you don’t and won’t subscribe. 90% of what you pay would go to me, only 10% to Substack. And, as an independent journalist, I make more a living there than I ever did at the many newspapers and magazines I’ve written for over the years, places that paid my $1 a word (at best!) in 1990, and in 2026 still pay $1 a word, or much less. But I respect your stance.

Heh, yeah, I know why people use it…that’s why I offer now to pay authors directly.

Yeah, Substack has, amongst other things, a Nazi problem. I managed to help persuade Jim Meehan to try publishing his journal on Ghost.
