A friend is having a milestone birthday and the theme is blue (everyone must dress in blue, etc). But his favorite drink of choice is Johnnie Walker Blue - we are getting a cake decorated with mini airline bottles of Johnnie Blue (not cheap at $22 each), but for the ladies and everyone else I wanted to feature a blue cocktail, perhaps something like Blue Hawaii. I know there are dozens of blue cocktails but I need one I can easily batch and/or only have to add lime juice once I get to their home about an hour away. I wanted to create a whiskey cocktail featuring scotch (but not Johnnie Blue), something that perhaps mimics that (Buchanan or Old Par Hispanics love I understand), but also something to stay with the theme - A Rusty Nail? Another cocktail to fall in line with the theme? I’d like to have at least 3 cocktails batched…. Any suggestions are welcome, thanks!
You’ve probably noticed that most blue-colored cocktails use vodka, gin or light rum as a base for the blue curacao to show. Here are a couple alternatives, which should scale to large volume easily enough:
Drinks Long and Short, Toye & Adair, 1925
Bottom’s Up, Saucier, 1951
How about a Blue Blazer? It’s a great show
